Ficus

The fig (Ficus carica) belongs to the mulberry family (Moraceae) and is one of the oldest cultivated fruit
plants in the world. Native to the Middle East and South Asia, it is now grown in many warm, Mediterranean regions of Southern Europe.

The fig is pear-shaped or round and ranges in colour from yellow-green to purple to blue-black. The skin is thin and delicate, while the flesh is sweet, juicy, and contains small, edible seeds. The texture of the flesh is particularly soft and somewhat sticky when the fruit is ripe.

In our products, you will find the fig in a classic fruit preserve as well as in two unique chutney combinations: delicately sweet figs paired with an intensely spicy mustard blend – the perfect complement to medium- and well-aged cow, goat, and sheep cheeses. Or: a mild yet refined combination of fig and green tomato.
