The pear (Pyrus communis) belongs to the pome fruit family (Pyrinae) within the rose family (Rosaceae) and is one of the oldest cultivated fruits in the world. At Alpe Pragas, we use the Williams Christ variety, which is known for its intense, sweet flavour and juicy flesh. The Williams pear originally comes from England and is now grown in many temperate climates, including here in South Tyrol.

The fruit has the characteristic pear shape, with a thin, green to yellow skin that turns golden yellow when ripe. The flesh is white to creamy, very juicy, and has a soft, almost melting texture.

The Williams pear stands out for its intense yet delicate taste, lightly floral, with a pleasant sweetness accompanied by a subtle, fresh aroma.
