The damson plum (Prunus domestica subsp. domestica) belongs to the rose family and is a subspecies of the common plum (Prunus domestica). It is distinguished by its elongated shape, deep violet to
blue-black skin, and firm, golden-yellow flesh. Depending on the variety, damson plums are harvested between July and October. They are particularly aromatic, sweet yet slightly tangy, with a delicate hint of acidity. Compared to many plum varieties, they have a firmer texture and a stone that separates easily from the flesh.
The Alpe Pragas fruit preserve, made from this late-summer fruit, is perfect for enhancing sweet baking recipes.
