The green gooseberry (Ribes uva-crispa) stands out as a characteristic fruit of our region. This bushy, deciduous shrub with its thorny branches belongs to the Ribes genus. The greenish-yellow fruits ripen from June to August and have a slightly hairy skin, setting them apart from other berries.
Resembling grapes in shape and texture, the gooseberry even owes its scientific name, Ribes uva-crispa, to this similarity. Depending on the variety and ripeness, the berries range in colour from green to yellow and deep red.
At Alpe Pragas, we use green gooseberries, known for their refreshing, slightly tangy flavour.
