Fruit preserve Quince - From aromatic, autumnal quince. The quince (Cydonia oblonga) is the only species of the genus Cydonia that belongs to the subfamily pome fruit plants of the rose family. Quinces probably originate from Transcaucasia and are one of the oldest fruit species to have been native to Southeast Europe for thousands of years. Today, quinces are cultivated mainly in Southwest Asia and in Southern and Central Europe. Quince is not suitable for raw consumption in general, as it is very hard and not very tasty due to the tannins. The harvest time usually begins after the first night frosts, from September to November. The quince fruit contains a lot of vitamin C, potassium, sodium, zinc and iron.
